Hormones play a very significant role in human health. Hormones are substances produced by various glands of the human body. These substances travel through the blood and reach every organ of the body. Such substances contain codes or instructions to various organs to perform in a certain way. If the production of hormones is sufficient , and the coding contained therein is correct, our bodily functions will work normally , and we should not have any health abnormalities.

If there is any anamoly in either the output or the composition of the hormones, we would face health related issues.

Hormones are a key determinant in our physical & mental growth, our hunger, digestion, processing of food, and production of wastes such as urine or faeces. Our sexual function & reproduction is linked to presence of critical hormones. Mood & behaviour, sleep & wake cycle , calcium metabolism are other important body functions where homones play a big role.

Estrogen and Progesterone are called female hormones because they determine female characteristics , female reproductive organs, menstrual cycle, and menopause.

When the quantity and quality of the above two female hormones get affected,  it affects the menstrual cycle, fertilisation of the female eggs, and the health of the ovaries, the fallopian tube, and the uterus itself.

Polycistic Ovarian Disease (PCOD)  is a condition where the ovaries, which produce the female eggs, gets inflamed and develops small needle like structures called cysts. These cysts prevent the ovaries from producing female eggs , or, make the ovaries produce immature eggs. This is why in PCOD cases, menstruation stops because there is no production of female eggs.

PCOD is a serious health issue, which affects millions of women of reproductive age.
