Psoriasis - A ready reckoner

Psoriasis is caused by the same reasons that creates other skin conditions like itching, exzema, and urticaria. Our body's immunity cells recognise our own skin as a foreign body , and fights our own skin cells. As a result , our skin cells get damaged and lesions are caused all over our skin. In Psoriasis , the damaged skin cells get covered by immature skin cells , and thus a thickened skin wall builds up. This skin wall , because it is immature and not fully formed , lacks bonding with the lower layers of skin, and falls off , forming dandruff like flakes and small pieces of skin. 

Sometimes, itching and burning are associated symptoms , and sometimes they are not. 

We call the thickened skin , " psoriatic crusts or psoriatic patches". Such patches are found all over the body . But, more prominent locations are top of head, neck and back area, chest, elbows, full length of the legs, and buttocks. 

Psoriatic condition remains present all through the year, increasing in winter.
