Migraine - Causes & symptoms
Published on June 28, 2025
Though there are many opinions about how Migraine is caused, the predominant theory is that acute pain is caused by a nerve which inflames the DURA, the membrane which insulates the brain from the sorrounding skull. So long as the DURA continues to be inflamed , migraine pain is felt. When medication is taken in the form of pain killers, the DURA gets temporary relief from inflammation and migraine headache subsides.
Migraine headaches affect more women as compared to men. This is because of hormonal changes - the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, breast feeding, menopause etc. Rise and fall of estrogen, progesterone and thyroid hormones cause Migraine headaches. Genetic factor also plays a part.
These headaches can occur everyday, or once started , can continue for a couple of days, They can occur a couple of times in a month. Hot weather, sweating, lack of air circulation, crowded spaces, loud noises, and bright lights can aggravate a migraine headache. There appears to be no connection with weather conditions. Some patients find some relief during summers. A few others find relief in winter. But, no clear pattern can be established between migraine headaches and weather. Similarly, food appears to have a weak connection with migraine. The headache will appear even if the person has fasted the previous day.
Mathur clinic provides very gentle medicine , which gradually reduces the occurence, frequency and severity of the headaches, and reduces them to an intensity which is negligible , and the patient can lead normal lives without medication.
